What I’ve Been Up To

It has been a while since I wrote a blog post - almost 230 days. That is a long time in the digital world. So, what have I been up to, you may ask. Well, let me tell you.

1. Weasel Tail Enterprises

As you can see from my last post, I set up a business with Keith Lefthand called Weasel Tail Enterprises. We had over 25 events in 2021. This year Keith will be managing the business on his own. I’m very excited to have helped Keith start the business. This was one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had. It has been an honour and privilege to work with Keith and his family. I wish him all the best in the future. Isneyis.

2. Writing a Book

As some of you know, I have been working on writing a book with my co-author, Joanne O’Connell. The new title of the book is, “Intentional Marketing: Say Goodbye to Random Marketing Based on a Whim and Say Hello to Marketing that is Purposeful and Intentional.” What do you think of this title? Too short? Too long?

Late last year we printed a few copies of our book for contacts of ours to review. About 20 people generously gave their time and energy to give us feedback. We are now in the process of changing the illustrations, correcting the typos, and changing some of the content. Our target is that publish the book early this upcoming Fall.

The image below is of the cover of the reviewers’ version. That is all that I have at the moment.

3. Hired by the Haskayne School of Business

Recently I contacted the Haskayne School of Business - my alma mater - to see if they needed any instructors for this next year. The end result is that I have been hired to teach Introduction to Marketing for Non-Management students (MKTG 341). I love teaching. I love teaching adults. I love helping others learn about business and marketing. I’m excited.

4. Reports using Google Data Studio

If you are not familiar with Google Data Studio, let me enlighten you. In a nutshell, GDS is an online tool developed by Google in 2016 to create templated and customized reports and dashboards. As you can expect, it integrates well with products that have been developed by Google. This includes Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Sheets, YouTube Analytics, and others. There are connections to other data sources but more often than not a third party provides the connection for a subscription fee.

We are now in the process of creating dashboards in Google Data Studio for all out clients. Contact me if you would like more information.

5. Meeting Contacts

Early in May, as part of my effort to reconnect with people, post-pandemic, I sent an email to about 100 contacts. An overwhelming majority replied to set up a time to meet. The discussions along with coffee or a meal have been interesting, entertaining, enlightening, and valuable. Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with me. It was a pleasure.

6. Visiting My Dad Who is 92 Years of Age

My father turned 92 this past February.  Recently my son, Riley, and I visited Dad and my step-mom, Gerry, in Edmonton where they live. Dad is doing well. He doesn’t get out and about very often. However, it is still a joy to have a conversation with him. Every once in a while, he tells a story that I haven’t heard before.
